Release of 2006 reds

A changing of the guard....release of our 2006 reds.

James Halliday: Milhinch Seize the Day SHIRAZ
“Deep colour; slightly savoury notes, with red fruits and hints of mocha; good weight with bright acidity, and good persistence of dark fruits on the finish. Screwcap. 14.9% alc.    Rating 91   Drink to 2018.”

James Halliday: Milhinch Seize the Day CABERNET SAUVIGNON
“Serious cabernet with complex aromas of violets, cedar, cassis and a touch of black olive; wonderfully pure on the palate, with great depth to the full bodied fruit.
Screwcap. 14.5% alc.      Rating 94    Drink to 2018.”

After spending some 16 months in bottle and developing nice complexity, both the Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon are drinking beautifully and are ready to go.

2006 was a brilliant vintage for us, with ideal conditions in the vineyard and grapes of great quality.

Our 2006 Rosé gave a hint of what was to come with the reds, when amongst other prestigious accolades it won the 2006 Hyatt/Advertiser South Australian Wine of the Year Awards - Rosé Class.

As a small volume wine producer, we only made 204 one dozen cases of each of the Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.

In line with our commitment, each wine is a 100% varietal from our own vineyard and reflects the soil, climate and viticulture that has gone into its genesis.

The Wines
2006 Single Vineyard Shiraz and 2006 Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

• Intense fruit driven varietal aromas and flavours.
• Both wines 100% varietal
• Full-bodied, smooth in texture and structure.
• Rounded tannins.
• Balanced, harmonious with subtle, sweet oak.

Bottled on 14/12/07, both wines are drinking well now and will develop gracefully over time. They should retain their full fruit driven integrity and develop increasing complexity for at least 10 years. Decanting recommended.

The Oak
Careful oak management is a priority to avoid over-oaking and the consequent masking of the natural fruit flavours. Both wines have spent 21 months in 300L hogsheads.

Shiraz: 12.5% new & 25% old American oak, 12.5% new & 50% old French oak.
Cabernet: 25% new French oak, 75% old French oak.

Total production:
Only 204 dozen (750ml bottles) of each variety were produced.

$38.00/bottle (incl WET & GST) Freight: Free for orders starting at 1 x 6 bottle case.
